MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Savannah State wrapped up the first day of action in the SIAC Crossover with a 3-0 sweep of Lane on Friday afternoon in the Memphis Sports and Events Center.
SSU won by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 26-24.
In the first set, the Lady Tigers had a .600 hitting percentage.
Savannah Everett had 5 of the opening set's 13 kills while Kira Roby and Everett added three digs a piece.
Savannah State totaled a dozen kills in the second set and had 22 in the third set.
In the third set, SSU scored the first three points and increased their advantage to 6-1.
Trailing 9-6, Lane used a 5-0 run to go ahead 11-9 but the Lady Tigers responded with three straight points to pull ahead 12-11.
The teams traded points for the rest of the set and with the score knotted at 24, a kill by
Aaliyah Saunders and a error by the Dragons gave SSU the two point victory for their third win in a row to improve to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
Savannah State had a .514 hitting percentage in the third set.
Iyonna Pike and
Savannah Everett both had ten kills for SSU.
Amiyah Walker finished with two aces, 31 assists and nine digs.
Mina Ezikpe and Pike both had one block.
The Lady Tigers will conclude play in the SIAC Crossover on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. match against LeMoyne-Owen.
