Savannah State Softball Season Concludes At SIAC Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ga.- The Savannah State softball season came to an end on April 29, 2024 on the opening day of the 2024 Cricket SIAC Softball Championship Tournament. The games took place at the South Commons Softball Complex.

Savannah State lost their opening round game to Spring Hill 5-0. In the elimination bracket, the Lady Tigers faced Edward Waters, where they suffered a season-ending 8-0 setback.

SSU ends their season with a 14-29 record.

In the game with Spring Hill, the Lady Tigers made five errors and only had three hits.

In the fourth inning, Neveah Ford led off with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice by LaTaviona Parke. Haley Carroll drew a walk and Demonee Miles entered the game as a pinch runner. Miles stole second to put runners on second and third but Ziahya Griffin struck out and Madison Starling-Martin flied out to end the scoring threat.

Griffin was hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh and Starling-Martin followed with a single up the middle to put runners on first and second but the next three batters could not advance the runners as Kayla Ragins fouled out, Phaedra Smith struck out and Caleigh Powell flied out to end the game.

Rosa Carnesale took the loss on the mound.

The Badgers scored three times in the second inning and added a run in the fourth and sixth innings.

In the elimination game with Edward Waters, SSU was held to one hit, a single by Neveah Ford in the first inning.

Edward Waters scored five times in the first inning, once in the third and twice in the fifth.

Rosa Carnesale was the losing pitcher.

Despite the setback, Savannah State had a productive season.

The Lady Tigers won seven more games this year than they did in 2023. In addition, SSU had two members of the team earn All-SIAC honors which did not happen in 2023.

With only one senior on the roster, Savannah State is on the right path to rebuilding the program.
