SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State University head volleyball coach
Roselidah Obunaga has announced the additions of four new volleyball players for the 2024 season.
SSU will welcome two junior college transfers, one transfer and one high school recruit.
Joining the Lady Tiger program will be juco transfers Savannah Everett and Saniaa Dickey, transfer Aaliyah Saunders and high school product Iyonna Pike.
Obunaga is pleased with her recruiting class as she prepares to improve on the 2023 season which produced a 12-12 overall record and a 8-11 conference record.
"Savannah Everett is a strong outside hitter and Aaliyah Saunders is a strong middle hitter. Saniaa Dickey is a defensive specialist and Iyonna Pike is a upcoming freshman with a good club competition background."
Obunga also feels that the newcomers will mess well with the returning players.
"The new group is very aggressive on the net. I am looking forward to seeing how they will combine with
Allena Norton,
Mina Ezikpe and
Tiana Curry to boost our offense."
Obunaga is also looking forward to seeing Saniaa Dickey tag team with
Kloe Ludy on serve receiving which she is counting on to solidify the back-row passing and also on defense.
Savannah Everett comes to SSU from Otero Junior College. During the 2023 season, the 6-foot outside hitter from Colorado Springs, Colorado had 231 kills, nine assists, 31 serving aces, 195 digs and 70 blocks.
Saniaa Dickey is a native of Tallahassee, Florida and comes to Savannah State from Lake-Sumter State College. This past season she had one kill, 43 assists, 32 serving aces and 284 digs. The 5-foot-1 defensive specialist was a team captain, a member of the 2022-23 FCSAA all academic team and was a NJCAA student-athlete council member.
Aaliyah Saunders is a transfer from the College of Coastal Georgia. She only played in three sets last season but during the 2022 season, she had 41 kills, 15 blocks, one assists and seven digs. Before playing at College of Coastal Georgia, the 6-foot-2 Winder, Georgia native spent a year at Monroe College where she had 34 kills in 29 sets.
Iyonna Pike is a 5-foot-9 outside hitter from Joliet, Ohio where she attended Joliet West High School. During her senior year, she had 26 kills, eight serving aces, 28 blocks, one assist and eight digs. She was a part of a winning program that were the 2022 regional and sectional champions while winning the conference, sectional andÂ
regional titles in 2023. Pike was named to the 2024 President Day Classic all tournament team for her club team.
