Savannah State Falls to Tuskegee, 5-3

HOOVER, Ala. Madison Starling-Martin hurled a two-hitter but Savannah State would fall to Tuskegee by a score of 5-3 on March 14, 2024 in the SIAC Roundup which was played at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
 
Starling-Martin pitched all seven inning for SSU, giving up two hits, five runs, two earned runs and two walks while recording three strikeouts.
 
Tuskegee scored a run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly but Savannah State would answer in their turn at the plate on LaTavonia Parke's solo home run over the left field fence to tie the game.
 
The Golden Tigers added another run in the second inning to go ahead 2-1.
 
In the fourth inning, Tuskegee scored two unearned runs to increase their lead to 4-1.
 
Savannah State responded in the bottom of thee fourth with Parke hitting a single to left field. After a single by Haley Carol, Ziahya Griffin hit a single up the middle that allowed Parke to score and slice the SSU deficit to 4-2.
 
Both teams scored a run in the fifth inning with Tuskegee scoring another unearned run and the Lady Tigers getting a run when Parke reached base on a fielder's choice which brought home Zorianna Ford to make the score 5-3.
 
During the contest, Savannah State had five hits but left four runners on base and made four errors in the field.
 
Parke went 2-for-3 for SSU with two RBI and two runs while Phaedra Smith hit a double.
 
Carole Ross had two RBI for Tuskegee (13-17, 5-4 SIAC) and Caroline Clark was the winning pitcher.
 
SSU (9-14, 5-5) will close the tournament against Lane in an afternoon game on March 14.
