SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State had four players in double figures in a 66-59 win over Edward Waters, in a game played in Tiger Arena on February 17, 2024.

Mya Byrd led the way with 14 points followed by
Nyla Allen's 13.
Jashiyah Jones and
Amani Hamilton both scored 10 points.

The teams were knotted at 19 at the end of the first quarter.

With 4:29 remaining in the second quarter, the game was tied at 25 but a layup and a jumper by Allen gave SSU a 29-25 advantage.

Edward Waters made it a two-point game following a layup by Kyana Johnson but a offensive rebound and the putback by
Ta'Quasia Lampkin gave the Lady Tigers a 31-27 lead with just under two minutes left, which they took into intermission.

Savannah State led by as many as seven in the third quarter but finished the final two minutes of the quarter without a field goal as they took a 44-39 advantage into the fourth quarter.

SSU started the final quarter with six straight points as Allen hit three free throws and Lampkin nailed a 3-pointer at the 7:22 mark to open up a 50-39 lead.

With 5:41 left, Edward Waters cut their deficit to 50-46 but a 3-pointer by Byrd followed by one free throw each from Allen and
Amari Heard expanded the SSU lead to 55-46 with 4:14 remaining.

Edward Waters got as close as 62-59 with seconds remaining but SSU closed the deal with one free throw by Allen and two by Hamilton.

The win by SSU, avenged a 70-69 setback in Jacksonville, Florida on January 27 where Savannah State blew a 27-point lead and loss the game.

The victory gives the Lady Tigers a 17-5 overall record and a 13-4 SIAC mark as they improved to 10-2 when playing in Tiger Arena this season.

Lampkin finished the game with 12 rebounds, eight points and four assists. Heard chipped in eight points and six rebounds while
Jacquece Alston had three points and three steals for SSU.

Tatum Hayes had a game-high 20 points for EWU (8-17, 6-11 SIAC).

Savannah State will host Albany State at 2 p.m. on February 24.
