DUNCAN, S.C.- Savannah State had their two-game winning streak snapped, following a 3-2 loss to Bluefield State in the February 17 afternoon game of the HBCU CIAA/SIAC Classic that was played at Tyger River Park.

The contest went scoreless for the first four inning of play.

Both teams scored twice in the fifth inning and BSU scored the winning run in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom half of the seventh inning, with one out, SSU's
Phaedra Smith reached base on an error by the second baseman and stole second. However, the next two Savannah State batters could not bring her home and Bluefield State claimed the victory.

Madison Roland's two-run single in the top of the fifth inning gave BSU the early lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Smith singled to right field and advanced to second on a single by
Kayla McDuffie. After Smith stole third and McDuffie advanced to second,
Milani Dunning hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Smith to score.An error by the first baseman allowed
Neveah Ford to reach base and that brought McDuffie home to tie the game.

During the game, Bluefield State stranded nine runners while SSU left five on base.

Dunning, Smith, McDuffie, La'Taviona Parke and
Haley Carol all had a hit for the Lady Tigers (2-5) and Smith stole two bases.

Zarria Smith was the losing pitcher, giving up only one earned run while striking out three.

Roland had two hits and three RBI for Bluefield State (4-5) and Maggie Mullin earned the win on the mound, pitching two innings in relief.
