HARDEEVILLE, S.C.- The Savannah State University softball team traveled across the Talmadge Bridge on February 10, 2024 to take on University of South Carolina Beaufort in the softball edition of the River Rivalry.

The Lady Tigers did not fare well, losing a double-header to the Sand Sharks by scores of 9-0 and 10-1 in games played at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.

In the first game, Cierra Kinlaw kept the SSU bats silent by throwing a no-hitter against the Lady Tigers.
Â
Although Savannah State did not get a hit,
Phaedra Smith was able to draw a walk to reach base in the top of the third inning.
Â
Rosa Carnsale took the loss on the mound for SSU. She struck out one batter in her four innings on the mound.

USAB was led at the plate by Addie Reynolds who had two doubles.
Â
In the second game, the Lady Tigers (0-4) scored their lone run in the top of the second inning.

Ziahya Griffin led off with a single but was thrown out at second when
Zorianna Ford hit into a fielder's choice.
Â
Smith hit a single that allowed Ford to score.
Caleigh Powell drew a walk to put Smith in scoring position but the next two batters suffered a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning.

Both teams left three runners on base in the game.

Zarria Smith was the losing pitcher, going four innings and recording two strikeouts.

Mariah Stephens had a home run for the Sand Sharks (7-1)
