ATLANTA, Ga.- Savannah State University placed 96 student-athletes on the 2022-23 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Commissioner's All-Academic Team for maintaining at least a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average throughout the 2022-23 academic year.
SSU had 30 football players, as well as 17 baseball players named to the Commissioner's All-Academic Team. Volleyball and men's basketball had nine representatives each, followed by men's golf and men's track & field with eight apiece. Baseball had five representatives, followed by women's basketball and women's track & field with four each and women's tennis with two.
The Tigers also had five student-athletes selected to the All-Academic Team for their respective sport. Student-athletes with a 3.2 or higher were considered for All-Academic Team honors. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions usually involved in that sport.
Representing Savannah State on the SIAC All-Academic Team were Kenneth Lockhart (football), Sunzahra Banks (women's tennis), Korbin Allan (men's golf), Mark Green (men's golf) and Luke Sanders (baseball).
A record high, 1,650 student-athletes, were named to the 2022-2023 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Commissioner's All-Academic Team.
