Lady Tigers End Regular Season With Loss

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Savannah State women's basketball finished the regular season at .500 on the road after losing a close contest to Fort Valley State, 53-58, on Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers close the regular season 17-7 overall and 13-6 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play. They close out the season as the No. 2 team in the SIAC East Division.

The first quarter went off with a fiery start. Fort Valley State received a technical foul to start the game.

The Lady Tigers did not wait to start scoring after the extracurricular activities when Amari Heard scored a layup to start a back-and-forth contest in the opening quarter.

Fort Valley would make the game even, but not until Jashiyah Jones scored a key jumper to spark a Lady Tigers' 8-0 run to end the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Savannah State still leading Fort Valley State for most of the quarter and going into halftime with a five-point lead.

Savannah State came out in the second half with the hot hand, jumping out to their biggest lead of the game at 11 points with 7:31 left in the third. From this point forward, the Lady Tigers would cool down and Fort Valley State would begin to chip away at the lead.

With 21 seconds left in the third, a key three pointer in transition by Diamond Jones would push Fort Valley State up by two, giving the Lady Wildcats their first lead of the game.

Heard answered back with a midrange jumper, tying the game for the Lady Tigers at 41 with :8 seconds left in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter proved to be an exciting finish as the back-and-forth continued. Fort Valley State ended the game on a 9-4 run, shooting 43% from the field.

Amari Heard led the scoring for the Lady Tigers, collecting 16 points on 8-for-15 shooting.  Nyla Allen scored 12 points, shooting 2-for-3 from the charity stripe and leading the team with four assists.

Ta'Quasia Lampkin continues to be a force on the glass, leading the rebounding with 13 boards.
