SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State softball earned its first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series sweep this weekend, beating Fort Valley State in three games on home turf.

The Lady Tigers hit parade racked up a total of 35 runs on 31 hits (.378) as they put away Fort Valley State in the final two games of the series with run-rule routs.

Savannah State improved to 6-12 on the season overall and 4-7 in conference play with the wins. The Lady Tigers moved into third place in the SIAC East Division standings with the wins, trailing Benedict (4-4 SIAC) and Albany State (9-1 SIAC).

In game one on Saturday, the Lady Tigers and the Wildcats were knotted up at 1-1 into the fourth inning. Marcela Foley singled to score JaNesa Robins to break the stalemate. Jocelyn Lozano later scored on an error to lift Savannah State into a 3-1 lead.

Fort Valley State scored a single run in the sixth to cut the Lady Tigers lead to 3-2 into the bottom of the frame. Casey Sims got things going with a single to left center that scored Foley who reached on an error. Later in the inning, Da'Ondalyn Simmons blasted a single to left, platting Kayla McDuffie for a 5-2 lead.

Alisyn Ferrell forced a three-up, three-down in the top of the seventh to seal up the win for Savannah State. Ferrell picked up her third pitching win of the season after a complete game in the circle. She allowed one earned run on two hits with one walk and five strikeouts in one of her best outings of the season.
