Lady Tigers drop two in CIAA/SIAC Crossover

SUMTER, S.C. – Savannah State softball dropped a pair of games this past weekend in the CIAA/SIAC Softball Crossover tournament that pitted teams from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association against the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in non-conference matchups.

After the first two games were rained out on Feb. 21, the Lady Tigers were able to get the last two in on Feb. 22. They fell to Claflin University 0-4 in the opening game and then dropped the second game, 0-13, to Winston-Salem State.

The Lady Tigers suffered at the plate against some strong pitching in both games. Jalexia Wright was the only player to record a hit for Savannah State in both games.

Claflin's Shaniya Thomas recorded a one-hitter against the Lady Tigers, with 16 strikeouts and two walks. Winston-Salem State's Tia Robinson recorded a no-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Lady Tigers return to action with two home non-conference series and a road non-conference series before opening Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action in early March.

Savannah State hosts Alabama A&M in a three-game series Feb. 29 and March 1 and then Livingstone College on March 3 and 4 at Lady Tiger Field. They open SIAC play on March 7 against Paine College in Augusta, Ga.

They face six SIAC West Division foes from March 12-14 in Jasper, Alabama at the SIAC Softball Crossover tournament.
