Lady Tiger Snap Losing Skid

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Myasia Jones led four Savannah State players in double figures as the Lady Tigers snapped a five game losing streak with a 68-57 win over Coppin State.
 
The Tiger Arena crowd saw Jones score 14 points while dishing out five assists and getting five steals.
 
With the victory, SSU sweeps the season series from the Eagles. Before this season, the last time Savannah State defeated Coppin State was during the 2015-16 campaign.
 
Savannah State (5-13, 3-6 MEAC)  led 16-5 with 4:40 left in the first quarter but CSU closed the quarter with a 11-5 spurt to enter the second quarter down by five.
 
The Eagles trimmed their deficit to one in the second quarter but SSU used a 10-3 run to go ahead by eighth with 1:50 left.
 
Savannah State led 38-31 at the break.
 
SSU opened the third quarter with eight straight points to open up a 15 point cushion. Coppin State would get as close as eight points but the Lady Tigers led 53-42 after three quarters of play.
 
Savannah State would lead 62-47 with just over four minutes remaining in the game and the Eagles could only get as close as nine down the stretch.
 
Alexxus Sowell had 12 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for SSU while Jalea Gray and Jacquece Alston scored 10 points apiece.
 
The Lady Tigers shot 41.7 percent from the field while making 33.3 percent of their 3-point shots and 63.6 percent of their free throws.
 
Brooke Fields had a game-high 26 points for CSU.
 
Coppin State (2-20, 2-8 MEAC) won the rebounding battle 46 to 38, despite making 22 turnovers.
 
The Eagles shot 34.4 percent from the floor, 22.2 percent from beyond the arc and 64.3 percent from the free throw line.
