Jones Scores 15 In Loss To Wildcats

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Myasia Jones scored 15 points and had a game-high three steals for Savannah State in the Lady Tigers 68-47 loss to Bethune-Cookman, in a game played at Tiger Arena.
 
Jones, who had nine of her points in the second half, also made all four of her free throw attempts.
 
Bethune-Cookman scored the first 11 points of the game.
 
Savannah State's first points came on a free throw by Ta'Quasia Lampkin at the 4:24 mark and the Lady Tigers didn't score their first field goal until Alexus Bryant's layup with 2:49 remaining.
 
B-CU led 17-11 after the first quarter and stretched their lead to 23-15 with 7:20 remaining in the second quarter.
 
Savannah State (6-15, 4-8 MEAC) trimmed their deficit to 25-22 but the Wildcats scored six straight points to increase their lead to nine with 1:32 left.
 
SSU closed the half with a layup from Jones and two free throws by Heinaya Moton as they trailed 32-26 at the break.
 
A layup by Jalea Gray followed by a 3-pointer by Le'Andrea Gillis pulled Savannah State within 32-31 to start the third quarter but B-CU responded with 13 unanswered points as they closed the quarter with a 17-4 run to extend their lead to 49-35.
 
Jones started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to slice SSU's deficit to single digits at 49-40 but Bethune-Cookman ended the game out-scoring Savannah State 19-7.
 
Lampkin and Jacquece Alston both had six rebounds for SSU. Alston also had a team-high four assists.
 
For the game, the Lady Tigers shot 27.6 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.
 
Angel Gordon had a game-high 24 points for the Wildcats, who out-rebounded Savannah State 49 to 34.
 
B-CU (16-9, 9-4 MEAC) shot 41.7 percent from the field, made 52.9 percent of their 3-point shots and 64.3 percent of their free throw attempts.
