SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State guards
Le'Andrea Gillis and
Ta'Kyla Austin are two of the top scorers in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and on Saturday, they proved why.

Gillis, the Lady Tigers leading scorer, put away 27 points and Austin put away 24 in a 90-68 rout of Tuskegee University. The Golden Tigers were the last unbeaten team in the SIAC, coming into Saturday's contest 3-0 in conference play.

Savannah State killed a two-game losing streak with the big win on Saturday and improved to 5-3 on the season and 2-3 in SIAC action. Austin was 10-for-15 from the floor, while Gillis went 8-for-19 and 5-for-14 from beyond the arc. SSU shot at a 49.3% clip from the floor and rattled in 10-of-25 3-point attempts during their shooting clinic.

But in the opening quarter, it was all Tuskegee as India Blakely drained 4 of 5 3-point attempt to help the visitors outscore SSU 23-17 to open the game. However, the Lady Tigers fired back late in the second quarter. Â

Azhana Maxwell kicked off a 10-0 run for SSU with a quick layup around the five-minute mark. Austin hit a 3-pointer two minutes later to give SSU a 38-31 lead with three minutes to play. By the end of the second, SSU had outscored Tuskegee 28-17 for a 45-39 lead at the half.

The Lady Tigers were firmly in control for the rest of the game, going up by as much as 25 points late in the fourth quarter. They outscored Tuskegee 27-12 in the final quarter to seal the win.

Maxwell added 17 points to the Lady Tigers stat sheet and
Alexus Bryant tacked on 10 with 9 rebounds. Normesha Pitts led Tuskegee with 20 points while Blakely added 18.

Savannah State returns to action on January 6 with a non-conference warmup against the College of Coastal Georgia. Tip-off in Tiger Arena is set for 5:30 p.m.
