SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State dropped to 4-9 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference after suffering a 78-42 loss to Norfolk State.
The crowd of 870 inside Tiger Arena saw Norfolk State scored the first nine points of the game as they took a 14-6 lead after one quarter of play.
In the first quarter SSU missed their first nine shots from the field. The Lady Tigers made their first field goal of the game with 3:43 left in the first quarter after a layup by
Alexxus Sowell.
The Spartans started off the second quarter with a 9-0 run to expand their lead to 23-6 with 5:33 on the clock. Savannah State shot 7.7 from the floor in the second quarter, making just one of 13 shots.
Savannah State trailed 32-13 at the half.
NSU used a 10-1 run in the third quarter to grab a 47-19 lead with 3:20 left.
The Lady Tigers trailed by as many as 38 in the fourth quarter but shot 50 percent from the floor.
Heniaya Moton led SSU with 10 points while Sowell added 14 rebounds
Savannah State shot 22.8 percent from the floor, 11.8 percent from beyond the arc and 58.3 percent from the free throw line.
Raven Russell had 22 points for the Spartans (9-8, 5-0 MEAC).
NSU shot 43.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from 3-point land and 84.2 percent from the foul line. The Spartans also edged SSU in rebounds 43 to 40.
