SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State University softball junior third baseman
Cortni Jones was named the College Sports Madness Mid-Eastern Athletic Player of the week.
Jones, who was named the MEAC co-Player of the Week Monday, had a great weekend at South Carolina State last weekend with a .778 (7-for-9) batting average with five runs scored, seven RBIs, four extra base hits, a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .818 on-base percentage in the three game series.
The Snellville, Ga., native went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run and three RBIs in the first game of the series and followed up in game two going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a double and finished the series batting a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored, two RBIs, a double and a triple.
This season, Jones is second on the team with a .394 (37-for-94) batting average with 27 runs scored six doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 32 RBIs with a .787 slugging percentage and a .448 on-base percentage.
The Lady Tigers begin postseason play with the MEAC Championship next weekend from May 9-12 in Ormond Beach, Fla. Savannah State enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed from the Southern Division, but the opponent is to be determine.
