SAVANNAH, Ga. – Freshman Muskaan Ranjan of the Savannah State women's tennis team won in singles and doubles as the Lady Tigers (0-6) fell to Appalachian State University (8-4) 6-1 Monday at Tiger Tennis Courts.
 
Muskaan Ranjan lost the first set 6-2 against Heidi Swope at the No. 3 singles position, but won the second set 6-4 to force a tiebreaker third set.  Muskaan Ranjan was able to win the tiebreaker set 10-6 to record the only point for the Lady Tigers.
 
Muskaan Ranjan paired up with her sister Sansriti Ranjan to win at the No. 1 doubles position 7-6 (5) against Maria Jose Zacarias and Swope.
 
Despite winning at the No. 1 doubles position, the Lady Tigers lost the doubles point.  ASU's doubles team Emily Gaskins and Sandra Anglesjo won 6-0 over SSU's doubles duo of freshman Sofia Shut'ko and senior Rachida El Kateb and the Mountaineers clinched the doubles point after of Rebecca Morse and Taylor Bygrave won at the No. 3 position 6-3 over freshmen Shakendra Alston and Ekaterina Vorobeva 6-3.
 
The Mountaineers took a 2-0 lead after Melissa Machado defeated Alston 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 5 singles position and took a 3-0 lead after Morse defeated Sansriti Ranjan 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles position.
 
Appalachian State clinched the match after Bygrave defeated Vorobeva 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 singles position.  El Kateb won the first set 6-3 against Gaskins at the No. 6 singles position, but lost the second set 6-4 to force a tiebreaker set.  El Kateb narrowly won the tiebreaker set, but lost 11-9 to give ASU a 6-0 lead.
 
Then Muskaan Ranjan's win cut the final deficit to five points.
 
The Lady Tigers finish the two game homestand with Longwood University Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Tiger Tennis Courts.
