Kaylee Allen set a career-high 38 points on 14-for-22 shooting from the floor as the Savannah State University women's basketball team (4-24, 1-15 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell to South Carolina State University (11-17, 6-10 MEAC) 80-78 in overtime.
Allen also added five rebounds and three steals, while freshman guard
Jazmine Bartlett added 10 points and freshman guard
Heniaya Moton and junior guard
Jacqueline Anderson each added seven points and freshman center
Alexxus Sowell added a game-high eight rebounds and three blocks.
Savannah State scored 10 of the first 14 points of the game to take a six-point lead, 10-6, with 6:31 remaining in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs scored 16 of the final 28 points to take a first-quarter lead of two points, 24-22.
The Lady Tigers scored 11 of the first 17 points to take a three-point lead, 33-30 with 3:25 left in the second quarter, but South Carolina State scored six of the final 10 points to cut the halftime deficit to a point, 37-36.
South Carolina State scored 19 of the first 34 points of the third quarter to take a three-point lead, 55-52, with 1:50 remaining in the quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored 10 of the final 13 points to take a third-quarter lead of 62-58.
An Anderson three-point to begin the fourth quarter gave the Lady Tigers a seven-point lead, 65-58, with 9:42 remaining in the quarter, but South Carolina State scored 14 of the final 21 points to tie the game at 72.
Each time South Carolina State would score two points, the Lady Tigers came back to tie the game, but Bryeasha Blair scored the game winning bucket with four seconds left to give South Carolina State a two-point win.
The Bulldogs were led by Blair with 27 points, Kemoni Jenkins with 14 points and Cahntel Williams with 10 points.
The Lady Tigers enter postseason play with the MEAC Tournament starting Monday in Norfolk, Va.
