TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Savannah State University softball team (0-28, 0-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell to MEAC Southern Division leader Florida A&M University (15-24-1, 10-0 MEAC) 1-0 at the FAMU Softball Complex.
The only run scored in the game was in the sixth inning when FAMU led off with a solo line drive home run down the left field line and the Lady Tigers left six runners on base.

Shelby Eccles recorded the lone hit as senior right fielder
Alexis Singleton walked and sophomore third baseman
Cortni Jones was hit by a pitch twice. On the mound, senior pitcher
Amanda McDowell (0-12) pitched a complete game giving up one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Both teams went 1-2-3 in the first inning and a half innings and FAMU recorded the first hit of the game with two outs in the second inning. The runner advanced to second, but was stranded at second after a groundout to first base.
Eccles started the third inning with a single up the middle on the first pitch and advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt by junior second baseman
Drea Lesure. After a line out to third base, Singleton walked to put runners on first and second with two outs, but a pop up to second base ended the inning.
Savannah State had its best chance to score in the fourth inning. Senior left fielder
Chasney Jenkins started the inning by reaching on an error by the shortstop and sophomore first baseman
Elizabeth Humes reached on a fielder's choice to throw out Jenkins at second. Jones was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out.
After a throw down to first base, Humes took off and safely reached third base. McDowell hit a sacrifice bunt to third base and Humes took off for home, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
FAMU stranded a runner at second in the fourth inning, while Savannah State stranded a runner at first in the fifth inning.
Jenkins reached on an error by the pitcher and Jones was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with two outs. A groundout to the second base ended the top of the sixth inning.
Then FAMU hit the solo home run on the first pitch of the inning, but McDowell sat down the next three batters.
The Lady Tigers went 1-2-3 in the final inning to give FAMU the one-run win.
The Rattlers were led by Jamesia Stoudemire, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI, while Alexis Day and Miesha McBride each added a hit. Kenya Pereira pitched a complete shutout game giving up one hit with five strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers finish the series with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at FAMU Softball Complex.
