Singleton Leads SSU as Softball Falls to Eastern Michigan Sunday

MACON, Ga. – The Savannah State University softball team (0-19) fell to Eastern Michigan University (10-11) 10-1 in five innings on the final day of the Mercer Bears Classic Sunday.
 
Senior right fielder Alexis Singleton was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3, while junior center fielder Brianna Harris went 2-for-3 with an RBI and junior shortstop Drea Lesure went 1-for-3. On the mound, sophomore pitcher Faith Dickerson (0-9) picked up the loss pitching the first 4.1 innings giving up nine earned runs on 12 hits.
 
During the three game tournament, Singleton led the Lady Tigers with a .900 (9-for-10) batting average with two runs scored, a triple and two RBIs, while Harris batted .556 (5-for-9) with two RBIs. 

With the second pitch of the game, Eastern Michigan hit a solo home run to right center to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning and added two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead after an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. 
 
EMU hit a solo home run to left field in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead, but the Lady Tigers answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 4-1 after the third inning.
 
After a groundout for the first out of the inning, sophomore catcher Kelsey Cyrus walked and back-to-back singles by Singleton and Lesure to load the bases with one out.  Harris singled through the left side to drive home Cyrus and took keep the bases loaded.   A strikeout and a groundout to the shortstop ended the SSU threat.
 
Eastern Michigan scored the final six runs in the fifth inning after an error allowed an Eagles to score, an RBI single, a two-run home run to center field and another two-run home run to left center. 
 
The Eagles were led by Michelle Kriegshauser going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBIs, while Taylor Wagner, Amanda Akles and Haley Hostetler each recorded two hits.  On the mound, Nicolle Miranda pitched a complete game giving up one earned run on six hits.  
 
The Lady Tigers start an eight-game homestand starting with Mid-Eastern Athletic opponent University of Maryland Eastern Shore starting at 3 p.m. at Tiger Softball Field in a nonconference battle.
