CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Savannah State University softball team (2-9) dropped both games to Delaware State 10-0 in five innings and UT Arlington 10-2 in five innings on the first day of the Charleston Southern Tournament Friday at the CSU Softball Field.

Alexis Singleton led SSU with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with an RBI, while left fielder
Chasney Jenkins went 2-for-5 performance at the plate with a run scored and shortstop
Brianna Harris went 2-for-4 with a run scored in both games.

Ashley Eichenlaub (0-4) took the loss, going 1.1 innings giving up five earned runs on six hits, while pitcher
Faith Dickerson finished out the final 3.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits.
Delaware State got on the board first with an RBI single to the pitcher for a 1-0 lead after an inning and added six more runs in the top of the second to take a 7-0 lead, where DSU recorded a two-RBI triple and a two-run home run to left field.
The Lady Hornets added a run in the top of the third, the fourth and the fifth inning for the 10-run win.
Nicole Gazzola went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Sandy Hawthorne went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs and Rochelle Sablay went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Nicole Brock (1-1) picked up the win in relief scattering two hits in 3.0 innings pitched.
UT Arlington 10, Savannah State 2 (5)Singleton went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, while Harris went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Pitcher
Amanda Hallman (1-3) went the distance pitching 4.2 innings giving up nine earned runs on 10 hits.
The Mavericks scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run single to center field for a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
The Lady Tigers tied the game at two in the top of the third inning after an RBI single by Singleton and Jones.
But the Mavericks broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning with three runs to take a 5-2 lead after three innings that included a two-RBI triple to center field.
UTA added the final five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take home the eight-run win that included an RBI double, an RBI single and a two-RBI single.
The Mavericks were led by Sandra Mendoza with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, while Laura Curry went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Kacey Everett went 2-for3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor Simmonds (2-0) picked up the win in relief pitching the final 2.0 shutout innings scattering three hits.
The Lady Tigers continue the CSU Tournament with UT Arlington at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by host Charleston Southern at 1 p.m.
