ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Savannah State freshman
Torrian Wright was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Year, the conference announced on Thursday from Ormond Beach, Florida, the site of the 2013 MEAC Softball Championship.
Wright concluded her first regular season as a Lady Tiger with a batting average of .408 (school record), 37 runs (school record), nine doubles, 16 home runs (school record – 33
rd in NCAA), 51 RBI (school record), and the 12
th highest slugging percentage in NCAA Division I (.864). She leads the MEAC in home runs RBI, and total bases (108). Wright was also named to the All-MEAC second team.
Senior
Madison Hedderly was named to the All-MEAC first team after finishing the regular season with a .345 batting average and the single-season school record for doubles (12). From the mound, Hedderly has an 18-9 overall record with a 3.88 ERA in 182.2 innings pitched. She is second in the MEAC in strikeouts with 151.

Antonette Smith was named to the All-MEAC second team. Smith has anchored center field for SSU in her inaugural season. She concluded the regular season batting .324 with 36 hits, four doubles and 15 RBI. She is fielding at a .930 percentage.
Savannah State has now won the MEAC Rookie of the Year award in the first two years of competition in the conference. In 2012, now sophomore
Amber Hallman was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year.
