SSU’s Drummond Named to Preseason All-MEAC Second Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Savannah State sophomore tight end, Kris Drummond was named to the preseason Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference second team, the conference announced yesterday in the annual MEAC football press luncheon and Media Days.

The poll is voted on by MEAC coaches and sports information directors.  The Washington, D.C. native played in 11 games last season, recording 13 receptions for 151 yards. He had a season high four receptions for 51 yards in the September 17 game against Appalachian State.

Savannah State was voted to finish in 11th place in the preseason rankings. North Carolina A&T's Mike Mayhew was voted preseason player of the year, while Howard's Keith Pough was voted preseason defensive player of the year.

Norfolk State was voted to finish first in the MEAC, followed by South Carolina State in a close second. Bethune-Cookman is slated to finish third, followed by Florida A&M, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, Morgan State, and Howard in eighth. Delaware State was voted in at 10th.

The Tigers made the history books last season with their first ever MEAC win over fellow MEAC newcomer North Carolina Central, 33-30. Central was slated to finish ninth overall in the preseason predictions. SSU finished the season 1-10.

Savannah State opens their 2012 campaign in Stillwater, Oklahoma against the Big 12's Oklahoma State University on September 1.
