MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Savannah State University Lady Tigers lost to the University of Nebraska Omaha 3-1 in the opening game of the Hornet Invitational Tournament, hosted by Alabama State University, Friday in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Lady Mavericks opened the scoring in the second inning. Mara Eeman scored Katelyn Hinton on a single to centerfield after Hinton reached on a singled to right. Nebraska Omaha held the 1-0 lead for the next two innings. They scored a single run in the fourth and fifth innings for the 3-0 cushion.
Savannah State answered in the seventh as
Megan Uhrman walked and advanced on a single from
Katherine Stewart. Uhrman was plated on a single from
Shamyra Adams for the Lady Tigers lone score.
Molly Negrete led the Lady Mavericks at the plate, going 3-for-3. Eeman was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.
India Morgan and
Amber Hallman were both 2-for-3 for the Lady Tigers.
Kat Barrow was tagged with the pitching win after seven innings of work. She allowed 1 earned run on 7 hits with 1 strikeout and 2 walks.
Madison Hedderly was tagged with the loss after six innings in the circle. She allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 12 hits with 3 strikeouts and zero walks.
Savannah State finishes out the tournament on Saturday, facing off with Nebraska Omaha at 12 p.m. and then Tennessee State at 2 p.m. The Lady Tigers are 3-3 overall.
