Hogue Records Double-Double In Loss To Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Savannah State's Erin Hogue recorded her second double-double of the year, posting 14 points, and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 72-60 loss to Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida Sunday afternoon.

Hogue recorded her first double-double against Talladega College on November 12, with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She leads the team in rebounds with 79 (7.9 avg. per game).

Trailing for most of the game, the Lady Tigers fought back in the second half with an 11-2 run. At the 9:12 mark, Jasmine Kirkland stole a ball and hit Jasmine Norman on a fast break layup to tie the game at 48. SSU was unable to take advantage of the offensive push as the Dolphins regained the lead and jumped out to a seven point lead three minutes later.

With 3:31 to play, the Dolphins Jade Cargill sank a layup for a 64-52 Jacksonville advantage. In the final minutes, the Lady Tigers cut the home teams lead to nine behind a layup from Norman, but the Dolphins knocked down four good free-throws solidifying their fourth win of the season.

The Lady Tigers came out struggling in the first half as the Dolphins jumped to an 8-0 advantage in the first three and a half minutes. SSU missed eight attempts before Andrietta Thomas dropped a short jumper.

Cargill sank a layup with 13:55 till the half giving the Dolphins a 12-2 advantage. SSU cut that lead to six behind an offensive spark started by a 3-pointer from Alexandria Taylor. With 7:29 on the clock, Ezinne Kalu drained a 3-pointer to cut Jacksonville's lead to three, 17-14.

Norman added a jumper two minutes later to cut the Dolphins lead to 17-16 with 5:05 to play. In the final five minutes of the first half Jacksonville pushed out to a 14-point lead, 35-21, behind an 18-5 run.

The Lady Tiger's shot at a 32.1 percent clip in the first half, while the Dolphins shot 38.5 from the field and 100 percent from the charity strip, knocking down 12 of 12 free-throw attempts.

SSU fared better from the field in the second half hitting 15 of 35 attempts (42.9%). Jacksonville extended their lead to 15 points, 38-23, at the 18:55 mark in the second half behind a trey from Tracie Sneed. Sneed led the Dolphins with 28 points, going 8-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Kalu followed Hogue in the scoring with 13 points. Norman grabbed 10 rebounds as the Lady Tigers outrebounded Jacksonville 43-37. Briona Brown recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Dolphins. SSU finished the games shooting 38.1 percent, while Jacksonville managed a 36.4 percent clip.

The Lady Tigers fall to 4-6 overall on the season and return to action Tuesday, December 18, in Tiger Arena. SSU host Alabama State at 7 p.m. The game will be free to the public. Thursday and Friday SSU closes out the first half of the season at the University of Florida Holiday Classic in Gainesville, Florida.
