NORFOLK, Va. – Savannah State's
Ezinne Kalu was voted to the 2012-13 Women's Basketball Preseason Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference First Team, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.
Kalu, a Newark, New Jersey native, led the Lady Tigers in the 2011-12 season in points (529), scoring average (17.6), field goals attempted and made (500/160), 3-point field goals (42), and free-throws made (167). Kalu is returning for her junior year, and has a scored a career total of 930 points.
Howard senior Saadia Doyle was named MEAC women's basketball Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive year .
Savannah State was voted 10th in the preseason poll with a total of 211 points and one first place vote. Howard was voted first in the MEAC with 637 points and 15 first place votes, followed by Hampton, Coppin State, Florida A&M, and North Carolina A&T.
Maryland Eastern Shore was voted sixth, followed by South Carolina State, Bethune-Cookman,
and Norfolk State. Delaware State was voted 11
th, with Morgan State and North Carolina Central rounding out the preseason predicted order of finish.
The preseason poll is voted on by the conference's head women's basketball coaches and sports information directors.
