Coastal Carolina Beats Lady Tigers

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- Coastal Carolina used a 15-2 run to fuel a 57-41 victory over Savannah State in the 2009 Carolina Challenge played at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center before a crowd of 2,100 fans.
With the score tied at two, CCU went on a 8-0 run but the Lady Tigers battled back to trim their deficit to 10-7 at the 11:44 mark.

Coastal went ahead by nine but a 3-pointer by Crissa Jackson pulled SSU within 22-16 with 2:44 on the clock.

That is when the Chants started their run.

Coastal scored the final five points of the first half to take a 27-16 advantage into the locker room and started the second period with a 10-2 spurt to grab a commanding 37-18 lead with 12:55 on the clock.

Savannah State answered CCU's run with a 11-2 surge to make it a 39-29 game with 7:20 remaining.

Leading by 10 with 3:05 left, Coastal ended the game out-scoring the Lady Tigers 10-4 and taking a 16-point victory.

Mattisha Mangum had nine points for Savannah State (8-5) while Kym Stamps added eight. Courtney Long had six rebounds and four steals.

Katie White had 13 points for Coastal Carolina (8-3).
