Savannah State Holds Off Stetson

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Crissa Jackson hit three free throws down the stretch to lift Savannah State to a 54-49 win over Stetson in Tiger Arena.

Stetson rallied from a 10-point deficit to tie the game at 47 with 3:24 remaining but the Lady Tigers ended the contest by hold Stetson to just one field goal the rest of the way.

SSU improved to 4-2 while Stetson remained win-less at 0-4.

After Keri Simpson's jumper tied the game at 47, SSU scored six consecutive points to go ahead 53-47 with 27 seconds remaining.

SSU jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first half but Stetson rallied to tie the game at 20 with 1:52 left on the clock.

Courtney Long made a layup and Kym Stamps hit one of two free throw attempts to send Savannah State into the locker-room with a 23-20 halftime edge.

SSU shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second period.

Long had 12 points for SSU while Darice Fountaine added 10 and eight rebounds. Jackson chipped in nine points and five assists and five rebounds.

Daphenne Frieson came off the bench to lead Stetson with 18 points and nine rebounds. Ashli Jackson added 10 rebounds and eight points.
