Lady Tigers Crush Allen

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Three players scored in double figures as Savannah State improved to 2-1 with a 78-38 win over NAIA opponent Allen at Tiger Arena.

Alishia Nelson and Reynetta Phillips both scored 12 points while Brittany Gilbert added 10.

Nelson had a team-high seven rebounds while Phillips, a 6-7 freshman, shot 6-for-6 from the field, grabbed three rebounds and blocked three shots.

Clinging to a one point lead with 13:20 left, Savannah State finished the first half with a 25-4 run to take a 37-15 advantage into the locker room. SSU ended the first period with 12 unanswered points.

In the second period, the Lady Tigers used a 20-0 run to increase their lead to 35 points and with 16 seconds remaining, SSU grabbed their biggest lead of the contest at 78-37, after going on a 12-3 spurt.

Dreese Erby led Allen (0-4) with 11 points.

SSU out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 41 to 27.

Savannah State shot 54.8 percent from the floor in the second half and 50 percent for the game.

Allen made 30 turnovers and shot 33.3 percent from the floor.

Crissa Jackson added eight points, nine assists and four steals for Savannah State.
