SSU Finishes Second In Alabama State Fall Golf Classic

MONTGOMERY, All- The men's and women's golf teams at Savannah State started their fall season by participating in the Alabama State Fall Golf Classic at the Lagoon Park.

The SSU men finished second behind Birmingham-Southern while the Savannah State women placed fifth.

The Tigers totaled 593 strokes in the two-day event.

Birmingham-Southern won the men's and women's events.

The SSU men shot a 299 on day one, ten strokes behind B-SC, and shot a 294 on day two.

Jamie Montgomery at 147 (74-73) and finished tied for third. Riley Baxter 148 (74-74) and Corey Brown 148 (76-72) both finished tied for the eighth spot. Brennan Davis 150 (75-75) was tied for 12th place.

Montgomery, Baxter and Brown all made the all-tournament team.

Nick Blakely of B-SC shot a 141 to earn low medalist honors.

Other schools participating were Alabama State, Faulkner, Morehouse, Alabama A&M, Spring Hill and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

For the SSU women, Vanetta Epps 196 (91-105) placed 17th while Lauren Daniels 212 (106-106) was 20th.

Kelley Burgess and Jordan Hardy both of B-SC were the women's low medalist with a two-day score of 150.

Spring Hall, Alabama State and Huntingdon also participated on the women's side.
