CHARLESTON, S.C.- Jason Miller's RBI double in the bottom of the ninth prove to be the game-winner as Charleston Southern defeated Savannah State 6-5, in a game played at the CSU Ballpark.
Ryan Rizk led off the bottom half of the ninth with a single and scored on Miller's double to give the Buccaneers the season sweep over SSU.
Josh Litchfield hit a RBI single in the second inning to give CSU a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers (2-6) took the lead in the top of the third, scoring three runs with two outs.
Marcus Mitchell started the inning by lining out to the second baseman followed by
Noah Orlando, who fouled out.
Mason Calloway and Bryce Luke hit back-to-back singles and
Freddie Landers followed with a double down the left field line that scored Calloway.
Kyle Gerdts hit a single to center-field that brought home Luke and Landers for a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Kale Rhame hit a two-run triple for the Bucs that tied the game at 3-3.
Aaron Miller's RBI double put Charleston Southern ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth but the Tigers answered in the sixth when Luke led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gerdts to knot he score at 4-4.
Rhame hit a RBI double in the seventh to give CSU a 5-4 edge.
In the top of the eighth, with one out, Calloway singled to center field and stole second. He scored on a single by Luke to tie the game at 5-5.
The Tigers, who had eight hits in the contest, could not manage a hit in ninth inning.
Savannah State was led at the plate by Luke who went 4 for 4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Calloway had two hits and scored twice and Gerdts drove in three runs.
Greg Smith was tagged with the loss. Smith pitched one inning and gave up two hits, one run and one walk.
Luis Torres-Lopez started the game for SSU and went 2.2 innings. Torres-Lopez gave up three hits, three runs and two walks.
Tyler Robinson,
Alex Pierce and
Paul Sheffield also saw action in relief for the Tigers.
Rhame had two hits and drove in three runs for CSU (4-4) while Rizk had two hits and scored three times. Wil Hartsell was the winning pitcher. Hartsell pitched for 1.2 innings and struck out one while not issuing and hit, run or walk.
Charleston Southern ended the game with 12 hits and left nine men on base.
