STATESBORO, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's tennis team (0-5) fell to Georgia Southern University (5-1) 7-0 Thursday at the Wallis Tennis Center.
Georgia Southern won by default at the No. 3 doubles position and won the doubles point at the No. 1 doubles position after the Eagles' doubles duo of Mariana Ranzahuer and Linday Truscott defeated SSU's doubles duo of senior
Sandy Lochu and freshman
Lili-Morgan Pastore 6-2 and won at the No. 2 doubles position after the Eagles' doubles duo of Paige Christian and Nikki Gilner defeated SSU doubles team of senior
Jennyfer Vivas and junior
Rachida El Kateb 6-3.
Ella Monsey won by default at the No. 6 singles position to give Georgia Southern a 2-0 lead and extend to 3-0 after Emilla Bujan defeated senior
Bria Burrows 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles position. GS won the match after El Kateb fell to Arianne De Winter 6-1, 6-1.
The Eagles took a 5-0 lead after Truscott defeated Pastore 6-2, 7-5 and went up 6-0 after Christian defeated Vivas 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (3). Lochu fell to Giulia Riepe 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) to give the Eagles the sweep.
With the South Carolina State University tennis match canceled Friday, the next opponent for SSU is Thursday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. against Charleston Southern for the Lady Tigers home opener.
