CLINTON, S.C. – The Savannah State women's tennis team (0-4) dropped both matches Saturday to Wofford College (4-2) 6-0 in Spartanburg, S.C., and to Presbyterian College 7-0 (3-2) in Clinton, S.C.
Wofford won at the No. 3 doubles position by default and won the doubles point after WC's doubles duo of Catherine Martin and Lauren Reid defeated SSU doubles team of senior
Jennyfer Vivas and junior
Rachida El Kateb 6-0 at the No. 2 doubles position. SSU's doubles duo of senior
Sandy Lochu and freshman
Lili-Morgan Pastore fell to Wofford's doubles team of Cassidy Hicks and Kalli Karas 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Wofford went up 2-0 after winning at the No. 6 singles position by default and went up 3-0 after Vivas fell to Reid 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles position and clinched the match by going up 4-0 after Hicks defeated Pastore 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 singles position.
The Terriers went up 5-0 after winning at the No. 3 singles position after Karas defeated El Kateb 6-0, 6-1 and won the final match to go up 6-0 after Taylor Carlson defeated senior
Bria Burrows 6-0, 6-0. The No. 1 singles position went unfinished as Martin defeated Lochu in the first set 6-2, but Lochu was leading 4-1 in the second set when the match was called.
Presbyterian won the doubles point after winning at the No. 1 doubles position 6-1 with Tracy Johnson and Nicole Croxton defeating SSU's doubles duo of Lochu and Pastore, at the No. 2 doubles position with PC's doubles duo of Katie Thompson and Mary K. Dickson defeating SSU's doubles team of Vivas and El Kateb 6-1 and at the No. 3 doubles position by default.
Lochu fell to Celine Schepers 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position, while Johnson defeated Pastore 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles position and El Kateb fell to Beth Taylor 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 singles position.
Vivas fell to Thompson 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles position, while Dickson defeated Burrows 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 singles position and Croxton won at the No. 6 singles position by default.
The Lady Tigers return to the court Thursday traveling to Statesboro to face Georgia Southern University at 2 p.m. and host their first match of the season with SSU's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener against South Carolina State University Friday at 1:30 p.m.
