Tiyonda Davis recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with a game-high 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Savannah State University women's basketball team (8-14, 6-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) defeated league leading Hampton University (13-9, 7-2 MEAC) 55-51 to win its sixth game in the last seven in Tiger Arena Saturday.
Davis also added a game-high and a career-high eight blocks to give her 77 blocks this season, which moves her into second place in school history in the Division I era in a single season, and shot 6-for-9 from the floor, while graduate student guard Lauren "Gaby" Moss added 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the floor with five rebounds.

Jeremica Edwards missed on a double-double with nine rebounds and nine points on 4-for-6 shooting from the floor with two assists and three steals, while senior guard
Kenyata Hendrix added seven points and four rebounds. Hendrix recorded three made field goals to give her 393 career made field goals, which moves her into second most in school history in the Division I era.
Savannah State scored the first eight points of the first quarter to take an 8-0 lead with 6:16 remaining in the quarter, but Hampton scored six of the next 10 points to cut the lead to six points, 12-6, after the first quarter.
Hampton scored six of the first eight points of the second quarter to cut the SSU lead to two points, 14-12, with 5:53 remaining in the quarter, but Savannah State scored six of the final eight points of the quarter to take a six-point, 20-14, halftime lead.
Savannah State scored the first four points of the third quarter to take a 10-point lead, 24-14, with 6:16 remaining in the quarter, but Hampton scored 13 of the next 16 points to tie the game at 27 with 3:06 left. The Lady Tigers scored the next seven points to take a seven-point lead, 34-27, with 51 seconds left, but the Pirates scored the next five points to cut the SSU lead to two points, 34-32.
The Lady Tigers scored 11 of the first 13 points in the fourth quarter to increase the SSU lead to 11 points, 45-34, with 5:05 remaining in the quarter, but Hampton closed out the game outscored Savannah State 17 of the final 27 points to cut the final deficit to four points.
The Pirates were led by DeJane James with 13 points, Chanel Green with 11 points and Kaylah Lupoe with 13 rebounds, seven points and four blocks.
The Lady Tigers continue the three game homestand with Norfolk State University (12-9, 7-2 MEAC) Monday at 6 p.m. in Tiger Arena. Earlier this season, the Lady Tigers trailed by as much as 23 points to NSU on Jan. 11, but the Spartans won 61-55 in Norfolk, Va.
