Allen and Scott Leads SSU; WBB Falls to No. 17 Oregon State Wednesday

Box Score CORVALLIS, Ore. – Junior forward Kaylee Allen and junior guard Donasja Scott combined for 27 points as the Savannah State University women's basketball team (2-6) fell to No. 17 Oregon State University (7-2) 84-36 Wednesday in Gill Coliseum.
 
Allen led the Lady Tigers with 16 points in 29 minutes and added three rebounds, two assists and two blocks, while Scott recorded 11 points and five rebounds.  Freshman center Alexxus Sowell recorded a game-high 12 rebounds and with three blocks.
 
Oregon State scored the first nine points of the game to take a 9-0 lead with 7:14 remaining in the first quarter before an Allen jumper got SSU on the board and cut the lead to seven points, 9-2, with 7:14 left.  The Beavers scored 10 of the next 14 points to increase their lead to 13 points, 19-6, with 1:15 left, but the Lady Tigers scored the final three points to cut the lead to 10 points, 19-9, after the first quarter.
 
After a Beaver layup to increase the lead to 12 points, 21-9, with 9:53 remaining in the second quarter, a Scott jumper cut the lead to 10 points, 21-11, with 9:36 left in the first half.  The Beavers closed out the second quarter outscoring the Lady Tigers 23-3 to take a 31-point lead, 45-14, at the half.
 
A Beaver layup increase the lead to 33 points, 47-14, with 9:15 remaining in the third quarter, but Savannah State scored six of the next eight points to cut the lead to 29 points, 49-20, with 7:17 left.  Oregon State outscored the Lady Tigers 21-10 during the rest of the quarter to take a 40-point lead, 70-30, after the third quarter.
 
After two made free throws by Oregon State to increase the lead to 42 points, 72-30, with 9:53 remaining in the quarter, Savannah State scored the next four points to cut the lead to 38 points, 72-34, with 5:51 left.  The Beavers outscored the Lady Tigers 12-2 during the rest of the quarter to win by 48 points.
 
The Beavers were led by Mikayla Pivec with 19 points, while Marie Gulich recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 points, Joanna Grymek recorded 16 points and Kat Tudor added 11 points.
 
The Lady Tigers return to the east coast to face the defending NCAA National Champions of University of South Carolina Sunday at 3 p.m.
