HAMPTON, Va. – Senior guard
Kenyata Hendrix led the Savannah State University women's basketball team with 18 points as the Lady Tigers (2-12, 0-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) fell to Hampton University (8-7, 2-0 MEAC) 75-46 in HU Convocation Center.
Hendrix went 6-for-14 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the free throw line and added three rebounds, while junior guard
Lauryn Fields added eight points on 3-for-5 shooting and four rebounds. The 18 points from Hendrix gives her 1,031 career points, which moves her into second most in school history in the Division I era and her six made field goals moved her into fourth place with 365 career made field goals.

Jeremica Edwards added eight rebounds and six points, while senior guard
Taylor-Ashley Shaw added seven points and senior center
Tiyonda Davis added five rebounds and a block.
A Hampton layup gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead with 8:43 remaining in the first quarter, but Savannah State scored seven of the next 11 points to take a point lead, 7-6, with 4:27 left. HU scored six of the final eight points to take a three-point lead, 12-9, after the first quarter.
Hampton scored 10 of the first 16 points to take a seven-point lead, 22-15, with 6:30 remaining in the second quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored four of the next seven points to cut the lead to six points, 25-19, with 4:23 remaining in the first half. The Pirates scored eight of the next nine points to increase their lead to 13 points, 33-20, with 59 second left, but Savannah State scored the final four points to cut the lead to nine points, 33-24, at the half.
The Pirates scored seven of the first nine points of the third quarter to take a 14-point lead, 40-26, with 6:16 remaining in the quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored six of the next eight points to cut the lead to 10 points, 42-32, with 5:14 left. Hampton scored 14 of the final 18 points of the quarter to take a 20-point lead, 56-36, after three quarters.
Hampton scored 18 of the first 20 points to increase its lead to 36 points, 74-38, with 3:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored eight of the final nine points to cut the final deficit to 29 points.
The Pirates were led by Malia Tate-Defreitas and Monnazjea Finney-Smith with 20 points each, while Tate-Defreitas added eight rebounds and Finney-Smith added six rebounds. Kaylah Lupoe added 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Tigers face Norfolk State University (6-7, 1-0 MEAC) Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
