STATESBORO, Ga. – The Savannah State University women's tennis team (0-1) began the 2017 season with a 7-0 loss to Alabama State University (1-2) at the Wallis Tennis Center.

Rachida El Kateb fell to ASU doubles team of Marine Cartier and Reka Szentes 6-0 at the No. 1 doubles position, while SSU's doubles duo of senior
Jennyfer Vivas and freshman
Lili-Morgan Pastore fell to Gabriela Lackova and Mirna Curcic 6-1 at the No. 2 doubles position. With only five players on the team, the Lady Tigers forfeited the final doubles matches.
Lochu fell to Cartier 7-6 (3), 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position, while Pastore fell to Szentes 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 2 singles position and El Kateb fell to Lackova 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 singles position.
Vivas fell to Curcic 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles position, while Burrows fell to Marija Blazevic 6-0, 6-0 and Brankica Orlovic won by default at the No. 6 singles position.
The Lady Tigers return to the court traveling to Cullowhee, N.C., to face Western Carolina University Friday at 2 p.m.
