Track & Field Qualifies For NCAA Preliminaries

FULL SCHEDULE

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Four Savannah State outdoor track and field student-athletes have qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championship per an announcement by an NCAA Committee Thursday afternoon.
 
The SSU track and field program has qualified members for the NCAA Preliminaries every year since the school elevated to NCAA Division I (2002-03).
 
Representing the Tigers in the 100 meter dash will be sophomore Kenshard Hamilton. Hamilton qualified for the Preliminaries with a time of 10.43, set at the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championship.
 
In the 110 meter hurdles, junior Cameron Hall will run for the Tigers, after qualifying with a 13.96, also set at the MEAC Championship. Junior Lemaar Shakir will run in the 400 meter hurdles after running a 51.59 at the MEAC Championship to qualify.
 
For the Lady Tigers, Asia Stinson will run in the 100 meter dash. Stinson set the school record (11.60) in the event at the 2014 MEAC Outdoor Championship.
 
The NCAA Preliminary Championship is divided into East and West Regions. The Tigers, in the East region, will run at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida May 29-31 for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship held June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
 
The top 48 student-athletes in the individual competitions were accepted into the NCAA Preliminaries.
