Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Mercer broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the eighth inning in a 6-2 win over Savannah State at Tiger Field.
Stephen Glaze pitched six innings in relief of starter Dimitri Kourtis and struck out eight batters to earn the victory.
SSU did not help their cause with five errors.
Antonio Scott hit a two-run single in the bottom of the second that scored
Mendez Elder and
Peter Poole for a 2-0 Savannah State lead. Elder led off the second with a single while Poole drew a walk.
Mercer tied the game in the top of the third.
The Bears left the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings.
In the eighth, SSU made three errors and Mercer scored three runs on one hit to go ahead 5-2.
Mercer (20-7) added another run in the ninth on a RBI double by Austin Barrett for a 6-2 score.
For the game, the Bears made two errors and stranded 13 runners on base while SSU left eight runners on base.
Scott drove in two runs for the Tigers (15-9) while
Todd Hagen had two hits.
Richard Loftin was tagged with the loss. Loftin pitched 2.1 innings and gave up one hits, three runs and two walks.
