SAVANNAH, Ga. - In pregame ceremonies Saturday, prior to the Lady Tigers Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener, junior point guard
Ezinne Kalu was honored for reaching a 1,000 career point milestone. Kalu, who scored her 1,000th in a 55-70 loss to Mississippi State last week, is the first Savannah State Division I women's basketball player to reach the mark.
The Lady Tigers won the conference opener against Norfolk State, 62-55. Kalu led the team with 21 points, followed by
Andrietta Thomas with 11, and
Jasmine Kirkland with 10.
After the first seven games of the 2012-13 campaign, Kalu has a career total of 1,033 points. She is the highest scoring women's basketball player in Savannah State Division I history.
