NORFOLK, Va. – Savannah State true freshman
Jerryshia Williams was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 11, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The Macon, Georgia native shot 46 percent from the floor in an 89-55 win over Columbia College November 9 in Tiger Arena, hitting 5 of 11 attempts. She posted 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 18 minutes of action.
Hampton's Keiara Avant was named MEAC Player of the Week, after a career high 26 points in a 78-41 win over Southern Mississippi. Hampton's Verdine Warner earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Savannah State's
Erin Hogue and
Ezinne Kalu were honorable mentions in the weekly awards. Hogue recorded nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Kalu led the Lady Tigers win with 25 points, two rebounds and six steals.
The Lady Tigers are 1-0 to start the 2012-13 campaign, and return to action November 15 against The University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. The game will be televised locally on Fox Sports South. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
