Williams' FGs Leads Orange Past Blue

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Derek Williams kicked four field goals to lead the Orange team to a 18-6 victory over the Blue team in the annual Savannah State Orange-Blue football scrimmage at T. A. Wright Stadium.

Williams kicked a 34 yard field goal in the first quarter and added field goals of 36, 42 and 36 in the fourth quarter.

Williams' field goal in the opening quarter gave the Orange a 3-0 leads but the Blue team went ahead 6-3 when Vince Cochran returned a A.J. DeFillippis pass 49 yards for a touchdown.

The Orange took the lead for good in the second period when DeFillippis threw a 12 yard touchdown pass to Alakan Thomas. The extra point failed and the Orange led 9-6.

Williams' three field goals in the fourth quarter was the only scoring done in the second half.

The Orange ran 56 plays for 222 yards while the Blue team had three sacks and one interception.

Thomas Beaurem ran seven times for 43 yards while Antonio Proctor carried 12 times for 38 yards. Justion Babb, who led the team in rushing a year ago, had 30 yards on six carries.

DeFillippis completed 14 of 27 passes for 123 yards and one interception.

Six different players caught passes.

Alakan caught four passes for 34 yards and a touchdown, Beaurem caught two passes for 24 yards, Eric Washington and Demetrius Holmes both hauled in a pair of catches for 23 yards, Stefon Taylor had two receptions for 17 yards and Babb caught two passes for two yards.

Cedric Chambers, Ericc Baker and Nate Clay each had sacks for the defense.

Richie Rucker led the Blue team with nine tackles while Cochran had five and Channing Welch chipped in four.
