LITTLE FALLS, N.Y.-Savannah State baseball player Jonathan Ross was one of four members of the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs voted to play in the New York Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game held July 14 at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam.
At the time of the All-Star break, Ross, a rising senior at SSU, has helped the Diamond Dawgs lead the NYCBL in home runs. Ross led the league with six long balls and was tied for the team-lead with 28 hits. He was ranked second in the NYCBL in RBI’s (20) and total bases (51). Ross jumped on to the scene opening night with a pinch-hit home run against Amsterdam. He homered the next night as well and a star was born. Ross would go eleven games without a home run before socking two against the Albany Dutchmen on June 21st and then go eight more games before homering twice against Saratoga on July 8th. He compiled seven multi-hit games including a pair of four-hit performances. Ross played in every game and has started 10 games at first, six in left field and nine times as a designated hitter.
During the All-Star game, Ross singled in a run and reached on an error in his two plate appearances and helped the East Division earn a come from behind victory over the West, 10-5.
For the season, Ross batted .264, scored 17 runs, had 37 hits, six doubles, six home runs, one triple, 27 runs batted in, had 15 walks, and stole six bases in eight attempts. He led his team in home runs and RBIs.
Mohawk advanced to the playoffs and lost in the first round.
