SSU Adds To Football Staff

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State University football coach Robby Wells recently added two coaches to his staff.

CJ Frye will coach the running backs and Hans Batichon will coach wide receivers.

Frye comes to SSU from McCormick High School in McCormick, South Carolina where he was offensive coordinator. He has also worked at Hilton Head High, South Carolina State and South Carolina. Frye played offensive line at USC where he was a four-year Letterman and made the SEC All-Academic Team for three years. The Columbia, SC native is the son of Gamecock track coach Curtis Frye, Sr. and graduated from USC in 2002 with a degree in accounting and a masters degree in 2005 in hotel restaurant and tourism.

“CJ played for us at USC, coached with us at SC State and coached for Steve Spurrier at Carolina,” stated Wells.

Wells went on to add “he comes from a family rich in the coaching tradition. His father is the head track coach at South Carolina. CJ has great work ethic and a strong desire to win.”

Batichon comes to SSU from Watauga High School in Boone, N.C. Batichon was born in Haiti and raised in Miami, FL. He graduated from Appalachian State in 2008 with a degree in mass communications/public relations. While attending ASU, he played wide receiver for the Mountaineers and won three national championships and three Southern conference titles.

“Batichon is a great young mind and has vast knowledge of wide receiver play,” says Wells.

“Playing at App State and being a part of three national titles is just a plus for our program. I believe he is going to be great for our receiving corps,” added Wells.

Batichon replaces Eddie Johnson who was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach while Frye replaces Trevin Smith who is no longer on the staff.
