SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Savannah State women's 4x400m relay team won first place in their event in the 2009 Tiger Open held at the SSU track inside T. A. Wright Stadium.
The team of
Victoria Burch,
Amber Hughes,
Mekela Martin and
Amara Jones had a winning time of 4:00.83
Also winning first place for SSU at the track meet were Jones, Burch and
Eric Plump. Jones won the women's 400m race with a time of 58.25, Burch won the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.78 and Plump captured the men's 100m race with a time of 11:01.
Finishing in second were
Gabriel Davis in the men's 800m (1:59.23),
Brandon Norman in the men's 110m hurdles (15.75), the women's 4x100m relay team of
Sharonda Redfield, Martin, Jones and Hughes (48.53), the women's 4x200m relay team of
Monique Harrison, Redfield, Jones and Martin (1:45.46) and Chris Blount in the men's long jump (23-01)
Third places finishers were Martin in the women's 400m (1:00.68),
Tyrone McCoy in the men's 800m (1:59.73), McCoy in the men's 1500m (4:14.79),
Aaron Whitaker in the men's 110m hurdles (15.92), men's 4x200m relay team of Blount, Shawn Sovnenir,
Darrell McElroy and
Jamario Parks (1:30.71), McElroy in the men's long jump (22-08.50) and Redfield in the women's triple jump (38-03.50).
Other participating schools were Benedict, Anderson, Morehouse, Albany State, Fort Valley State, Clark Atlanta, Savannah College of Art & Design and The Citadel.
