STATESBORO, Ga.- Amara Jones and Tyrone McCoy won first place in their events at the Georgia Southern Invitational.

Jones a freshman, won the women's 400m with a time of 56.54 while McCoy, a Statesboro native, won the men's 800m race with a time of 1:56.24.

Mekela Martin (1:01.33) finished 17th in the women's 400m race, Sharonda Redfield (5.07m) was 9th in the long jump and Amber Hughes (4.72m) was 11th. Hughes was 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 11.46m.

Jamario Parks (11.09) was 9th in the men's 100m, Eric Plump (49.29) tied for 4th in the 400m and Vernon Williams (50.69) was 12th. Gabriel Davis (1:58.86) was 3rd in the 800m, Ruben Isreal-McBee finished (4:14.01) in the 1500m and the 4x100m relay team was third witha time of 42.25. In the long jump, Parks (6.46m) was 3rd and Chris Blount and Darrell McElroy was 5th and 6th respectively witha leap of 6.37m
