Tigers Run At Tennessee State Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tn.- Savannah State combined for 15 top 10 finishes in the Tennessee State Invitational which was ran at Gentry Arena.

Leading the way for the SSU men were Chris Blount and the 4x400m "A" relay team who both had third place finishes. Blount had a leap of 14.47m in the triple jump while the relay team of Tyrone McCoy, Eric Plump, Marcus Stallworth and Vernon Williams had a time of 3:21.37.

The SSU women received second place finishes from Amber Hughes in then triple jump with a leap of 11.60m and Victoria Burch in the 400m race with a time of 58.23.

Darryl McElroy (6.40m) was 13th in the long jump and Jamario Parks (12.91m) was ninth in the triple jump.

In the one mile race, McCoy (4:38.70) was 11th followed by Ruben McBee (4:42.22) who was 16th and Gabriel Davis (5:00.30) who finished 29th.

Williams (50.41) was 11th in the 400m race while Stallworth (51.44) was 20th and Aaron Whitaker (53.21) was 31st. In the 800m competition, Davis (1:57.10) was 13th and McBee (1:59.59) was 18th while in the 200m race Richard Rucker (23.11) was 16th and McElroy (23.41) placed 21st.

In the 60m hurdles race, Stallworth (8.45) was sixth followed by Brandon Norman (8.57) who was seventh and Whitaker (8.77) who finished ninth. Plump (6.96) placed fourth in the 60m race.

The 4x440m "B" relay team of Blount, McBee, Norman and Whitaker finished ninth with a time of 3:29.65.

For the SSU women, Sharonda Redfield was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.64m while Hughes was eighth with a jump of 5.62. Refield placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.22m.

Kandace Smith (6:45.62) was 30th in the one mile race. Mekela Martin (59.34) was ninth in the 400m race while Monique Harrison (1:02.45) was 22nd.

In the 800m race, Amara Jones (2:37.36) was 29th and Redfield (28.04) finished 33rd.

The 4x400m relay team made up of Burch, Harrison, Jones and Martin placed fourth with a time of 4:00.75.

In the 5000m race, Sadie Sellow was 14th with a time of 20:51.63
