SAVANNAH, Ga- After shooting a 330 on the first day of competition, the Savannah State men's golf team rebounded to shoot 319 on day two and placed fifth in the Tiger Fall Invitational.
SSU, who had a two day total of 650, entered the final day tied for eighth place with Hampton.
The meet was held at Henderson Golf Course.
Jamie Montgomery led the SSU linksters. Montgomery shot a 81 on day one but shaved three strokes off his shot for a 78 on the second day for a 159 total. Corey Brown shot 80 on both days for a 160.
Montgomery finished tied for 14th while Brown was tied for 15th.
South Carolina State won the event with a score of 614. Florida A&M and North Carolina Central were tied for second with 627 while Fayetteville State finished fourth with 630.
Roberto Cacho of South Carolina State entered the final day tied for fourth but ended up the tied for the tournament low medalist honors with FAMU's James Petty Jr. with a two-day score of 149. Petty entered the second day tied for sixth with four others.
The Savannah State women finished fifth in the women's bracket with a two day total of 904. SSU shot 452 on both days.
Vonnetta Epps was the SSU low medalist with a 101 on day one and a 98 on day two for a 199 total. Lauren Daniels had a two-day total of 232 while Davielle Drayton was right behind with 234.
Epps finished 15th while Daniels was 19th and Drayton finished 20th.
The South Carolina State women made it a clean sweep, winning the women's division with a two-day total of 693.
Hampton (706) was second followed by Alabama State (750) and Tennessee State (768).
SCSU's Honesty Biggers shot a tournament low 156. Danielle Robinson of Alabama State shot 164 while Dionne West of Hampton had 168 and Addi McLaren of SCSU finished with a 169.
